An old man causes a stir on the web: In February 2022, a video was circulated on social media that is said to show a 163-year-old man.
Some users claimed it was a monk practicing sokushinbutsu, an alleged self-mummification technique used by monks.
But the research site Snopes has now made it clear that the video does not show a 163-year-old man. It also doesn’t show a monk practicing sokushinbutsu. The video shows a 109-year-old man whose name appears to be Luang Pho Yai.
The video was originally posted on TikTok by a user named @auyary13. She describes herself as Yai’s granddaughter. The TikTok user has posted dozens of videos of her grandfather.
After breaking a hip bone, Yai was taken to Dan Khun Thot Hospital in Thailand.
@Auyary13’s videos have been viewed millions of times as she keeps her fans updated on his health status.
