The board of directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “Oscar” decided to ban American actor Will Smith from attending any Academy events, including the Academy Awards, for 10 years following he slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage at the ceremony.
The announcement came today, following a meeting of the Academy’s Board of Directors to discuss Smith’s punishment. The latter, had already resigned from his membership in the Academy, and gave up his voting rights.
He said before the disciplinary hearing that he would accept any consequences. The board of directors was scheduled to meet on April 18, but brought the hearing to deal with the incident “in due course” following the representative resigned.
