No big winner for the Gambia legislative elections, but a very fragmented National Assembly. President Adama Barrow’s party won 19 seats out of 53, against 15 for the main opposition party, the United Democratic Party (UDP). The party of former president in exile Yahya Jammeh, today in alliance with the presidential party won 2 seats, but should have the support of 5 independent candidates out of the 11 elected without a banner. Also present in this alliance, the Reconciliation Party won 4 seats. The Socialist Party PDOIS, another opposition party, lost one seat and only had two. For observers, this result is seen as a failure for Adama Barrow, who will have to deal with five more years with a fragmented assembly.
