Al-Eqtisadiah from Riyadh, the German “Verdi” union for service sector workers, began strikes for several days in seven of the 17 distribution centers of the American electronic shopping company Amazon in the country yesterday, to demand better data protection and better wages.
“The strikes are taking place in Bad Hersfeld, Koblenz, Leipzig, Rheinberg, Graben and Verne, and they will be of varying duration,” a union spokesman in Berlin said.
According to “Al Almanya”, the union confirmed that a comprehensive evaluation of these strikes will not be conducted until their end, but that about 2,500 people are expected to participate, which will disrupt Amazon’s business. These strikes come on the day after International Workers’ Day on May 1st. Amazon said it does not expect any impact on customers.
