Brasilia – Agencies
The Brazilian authorities announced that at least 25 people died Saturday due to heavy rains that have fallen on the Recife region, the capital of Pernambuco, since last Tuesday.
A source in the region’s civil defense said: “Today (Saturday) alone, 25 people were killed” in separate locations in the region.
The rains caused flooding in different parts of Recife, and at least 500 people were evacuated across the state.
Two months ago, the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro was hit by devastating floods that killed more than 170 people, and caused extensive losses.
