What wage gaps for IT professionals in Switzerland?

A comparison of the 2021 and 2022 editions of the “Lohnbuch” (“Wage Book”) of the Office for Economics and Labor of the Canton of Zurich provides an idea of ​​the development of wages upon hiring of computer scientists active in Switzerland.

Although in general, the median salary of IT professionals in Switzerland has changed very little between 2021 and 2022, significant differences are observed for certain professions. This is the case for junior-level data scientists, who see their starting salary drop sharply (-15%). On the other hand, the remuneration of a junior business analyst has increased sharply between 2021 and 2022 (+11%).

Salaries can also vary significantly depending on the level of experience, sometimes as much as double. In 2022, a senior data scientist will thus be offered a salary twice as high as for the same position at junior level (10,019 fr. against 5,917 fr.). There are also significant gaps between senior-level system administrators and project managers and their less experienced colleagues.
