Many key staff at Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics, two of the largest commercial laboratories in the US, have refused to draw blood from patients suspected of being infected with monkeypox, according to a CNN report Aug. 3.
Labcorp and Quest do not dispute that in many cases their puncture operators (blood draw personnel) do not collect blood from potential monkeypox patients. According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 6,326 reported cases of monkeypox as of Tuesday, an 81 percent increase from a week earlier.
