A work by Riopelle stolen 17 years ago found in Mirabel

A lithograph by painter Jean-Paul Riopelle was found on July 20 in a residence in Mirabel, in the Laurentians, following being stolen nearly 17 years ago.

It was during a search that investigators from the Economic Crimes Investigation Service of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) got their hands on the missing work from the painter’s studio on June 30, 2005.

On the same date, four works by the artist had been stolen following a break-in at the former studio in Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson.

The other three works are still being sought.

Anyone who has information regarding the theft perpetrated on June 30, 2005 at Jean-Paul Riopelle’s studio or regarding the works sought is asked to contact the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec at 1 -800-659-4264.
