Jakarta: Three consecutive earthquakes in Indonesia. Earthquakes occurred at around 10.30 am on the island of Menwai in Sumatra on Monday. The third was a magnitude 6.1 earthquake, the Indonesian Geophysics Agency said. It was also clarified that there are no tsunami threats.
The first two earthquakes, which occurred an hour apart, were of magnitude 5.2 and 5.4. Officials said the latest quake caused minor damage to buildings on Siberat Island, but no deaths were reported.
Menwai Island is the capital of Patang. Many people have been shifted to safer places from here. 1100 people died in the 2009 earthquake in Patang. The magnitude of the earthquake that day was 7.6.
