Mammologist Tamaeva explained when a woman’s small breasts are a disease

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Small breasts – what is it?

“There are several types of hypomastia (it is also called micromastia or hypoplasia), underdevelopment of breast tissue in women,” says Fatima Tamaeva, head physician of the L7 Breast Center. – Amastia is the complete absence of glandular tissue in the breast, it is diagnosed extremely rarely and is most often observed in patients who have undergone severe surgical interventions or injuries in childhood or adolescence. It also happens that the size of one of the mammary glands is much smaller than the second.

The criterion for a “normal” breast size for women has not been established, and therefore an unambiguous definition of hypomastia is not accepted, clarifies the mammologist.

– The diagnosis of hypomastia is established if the volume of the breast of an adult woman is 200 ml or less, says Fatima Tamaeva. – It is important to note that micromastia can only be detected following the end of the puberty process (not earlier than 18 years).
