Racing driver Alexis Charbonneau lost his life following being hit by a vehicle last week in the parking lot of a billiard room located in the Saint-Hubert borough of Longueuil.
It was relatives of the pilot who made the announcement on social networks on Sunday.
“I’m talking to you regarding my friend Alexis Charbonneau, a life snuffed out far too quickly at the age of 26 by drunk driving. Alexis had his whole life ahead of him, but someone stole it from him. Alexis was a racing champion and a bloody good guy. Rest in peace!” wrote Anthony Marcotte, spokesperson for Autodrome Granby, on Twitter on Sunday.
Alexis Charbonneau was second in the compact sports championship and had won three times this season at Autodrome Granby.
The young pilot was hit by a car, around 4 a.m. on the night of September 11, in the parking lot of a billiard room located on boulevard Cousineau in Longueuil.
“A driver of a vehicle hit a pedestrian while reversing,” the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) said in a statement, adding that the victim was in critical condition. .
“The driver, a 28-year-old female, faces charges of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Dangerous Driving Causing Harm.”
However, the charges might be changed following the death of the victim.
