‘C-Mac’ Dae-ho Kim to become director of Guangdong Freecs

Director Kim Dae-ho of ‘C-Mac’ signed a contract with Gwangdong Freecs. According to the related industry on the 22nd, the contract period is two years. Guangdong Freecs, which is inevitably undergoing a major rebuild, entrusted the baton to director Kim.

Director Kim Dae-ho worked as a manager for two teams, Griffin and DRX. In 2018, the Griffin team, who was in the Challengers League, was promoted to the LCK League immediately after taking office as manager, and achieved achievements such as winning the regular league in the first season of promotion.

Despite these achievements, there are many voices of concern about the appointment. Because there was a lot of noise around Director Kim. During Griffin’s tenure as manager, a lawsuit was filed against some players for assault and abusive language in the process of giving feedback to his players.

On March 12, 2020, the prosecution admitted to the assault and issued a summary fine of 1 million won. Director Kim, who was dissatisfied with this, claimed innocence and requested a formal trial. In October 2020, the e-Sports Fair Committee received a request for a disciplinary review from Riot Games Korea and conducted an investigation into allegations of verbal abuse and assault. On December 14, the allegation was admitted as true, and coach Kim received a five-month suspension of qualifications.

Even after the suspension of qualifications was lifted, director Kim continued to work as a personal broadcaster, but recently announced his return as a director through his YouTube channel. On the 18th, he signed an agency contract with Loud Corporation and began his full-fledged job search.

Regarding the reason why Guangdong Freecs signed a contract with manager Kim despite these risks, an e-sports industry official said, “I think the most important task is to improve the performance of the next season.”
