CHICAGO (Dow Jones)–Sentiment among Chicago-area purchasing executives cooled significantly in September. The Chicago Business Barometer, also known as the Chicago PMI, fell sharply to 45.7 in September from 52.2 the previous month. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had expected a reading of 51.8. Values below 50 indicate a contracting economy. The index is created by the ISM-Chicago using MNI.
Chicago PMI is the latest of the regional manufacturing indices before Monday’s national ISM data for September.
