Climate, energy: one in three Belgians ready not to pay their bill – The follow-up to our survey ‘Bye-Bye democracy?’

“What energy saving measures have you taken since the start of the energy crisis?” This question was posed to respondents with a series of suggested actions. Several choices were possible.

Lowering the thermostat is the measure most adopted by the Belgians surveyed. 63.4% say they have done so.

Second popular measure, “turn off the lights”. 63.1% of Belgians surveyed have implemented this measure.

Tackling water consumption is also a priority. 51.6% of respondents say they have reduced their water consumption.

Then come the reduction in the consumption of electrical appliances (for 47.3% of respondents), less use of the car (for 39.3%), driving more slowly on the motorway (for 24.2%).

17.3% of those questioned say they favor the use of the microwave rather than the ordinary oven.

14.7% prefer the wood stove.

14% fly less.

13% have renovated their home.

Finally, 8.9% of respondents, almost one in ten, have not taken any of these measures.
