A report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) showed that discrimination once morest children is still widespread in many countries of the world, on the basis of race, language and religion.
The report, issued today on the occasion of International Children’s Day, showed that children from marginalized groups in 22 low- and middle-income countries lag far behind their peers in reading skills.
On average, students aged 7 to 14 from the most advantaged group are twice as likely to have basic reading skills as those from the least advantaged group. (wam)
