There are hours to go before the start of the World Cup and everyone seems to be preparing for it. Schools are not far behind and, in many cases, seek the best way to make the most of the football event pedagogically that will have the Argentines pending for a month. What are the proposals of the jurisdictions? Can the games be watched at school? What will happen to those who arrive late or want to leave earlier when the National Team plays?
“The girls and boys ask to see the games and they have the right like all Argentines. We believe that it is an excellent opportunity to arouse interest and to work linking issues of ethical training, history, social sciences, geography, literature or mathematics”, said the Minister of Education of the Nation, Jaime Perczyk. And he added: “We are convinced that the school is the best place for them to be and that is why we encourage them to give educational content to the World Cup”.
In this line, the issue was brought to the Federal Council of Education as an item on the agenda “but there was no resolution,” as confirmed to Clarion from the national education portfolio. What will they do in the Provincial schools?
In the Province of Buenos Aires they presented two initiatives to face the World Cup from the classroom.
On the one hand, a microsite called “Amazing goal, the World Cup at School” and it will have pedagogical and interactive proposals, conversations with personalities linked to sport and a space destined to expose the experiences and work activities produced by the schools linked to the World Cup.

They will also offer materials within the framework of the project “The World Cup in schools”, a task articulated with Canal Encuentro, Pakapaka and DeporTV. These are audiovisual productions that provide tools to teachers and students on this topic. Among them, they will present “Sucesos mundiales”, “El Mundial y yo” and the “Gen Mundial”.
Between both proposals, they will refer to the role of women in Argentine soccer and memories and family rituals linked to the World Cup. They will also take the opportunity to talk about math and soccer (using elements such as the number of jerseys, the number of goals and scores), of places and positions on the pitch, geography and history of Qatartime zones and time difference, the World Cups in English, art and soccer, and habits and practices in the key of Comprehensive Sexual Education.

The Buenos Aires Undersecretary of Education provided that “classes will be held normally during normal school operating hours during the development of the 2022 Soccer World Cup”.

To achieve this, he affirms that “schools have to have enough autonomy to organize their school day including this topic, which does not imply wasting time but rather take advantage of the interest that the boys have in the World Cup so they can keep learning.”
