Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, as it affects many people, but did you know that it may also appear in several areas of the body other than the face and hands?

In the following lines, we mention to you some unexpected places that develop skin cancer, according to “healthdigest” and webmd.

Under the nails:

Bunions occur under the nail of the thumb and the big toe, among the most common areas. It is not due to sun exposure, so if you notice a dark line under the nail for no apparent reason, you should consult a dermatologist.

Hand rest:

If you have dark skin, skin cancer can occur on areas of the body that are not exposed to sunlight, such as the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.

– Lid:

Too much sun exposure is often the cause of skin cancer in this area. You can remove it surgically. If treated early, this type grows more quickly and spreads easily to the rest of the body.

– Scalp:

Tumors occur in the scalp, but they are mostly non-cancerous. They appear in the form of sores on the scalp or small, soft waxy masses that may bleed or crust, so it is recommended to consult a specialist doctor if these symptoms persist for long periods.

Inside the ear:

Skin cancer on the outside of the ear (squamous or basal cell) can spread to the inside of the ear if left untreated, including in the ear canal that extends from the outer ear to the tiny bones in the middle ear.

– the tongue:

You may notice flat, hard, white patches that you can’t scrape or touch, or a lump or sore that won’t go away. These are usually caused by excessive smoking, so your doctor needs to surgically remove them.

– lips:

Non-melanoma cancers, often basal or squamous cell carcinomas, are the ones that usually affect your lips, and men here too get this type of cancer more often than women, because they tend to use tobacco and alcohol more.

The whites of the eyes:

Conjunctival melanoma is a cancerous growth of the conjunctiva, the membrane that covers the surface of the eye and the inner eyelid, and appears as a dark or red spot on the white of your eye.

They can be serious and may spread to other parts of the body through the lymph nodes or bloodstream, so the doctor is keen to take a sample of tissue for examination under a microscope to help determine whether it is cancer or not.
