NHL: a mountain of regret for the Devils – rts.ch

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

End of series for New Jersey! Undefeated for 11 away games, the Devils lost 4-3 to Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

New York forced the decision thanks to a success from Filip Chtyl following 2’15” in overtime. In the end, the Devils can harbor a mountain of regret. Captain Nico Hischier and his teammates will indeed wonder for a long time how they might have lost this meeting.

New Jersey led 2-0 in the 5th minute thanks to Hischier’s opener for his 13th success of the season on an assist from Jonas Siegenthaler, and a goal from Dawson Mercer. In the second period, Jack Hughes missed a penalty that would have given New Jersey a 4-1 lead. A few moments later, the Rangers equalized with 2 goals scored in the space of… 7 seconds.

Like Hischier and Siegenthaler, Roman Josi and Nino Niederreiter only picked up one point. Nashville lost 1-0 in overtime to St. Louis for a third loss in a row. Brayden Schenn scored the game’s only goal following 2’23” in overtime.
