The Castilla y León Mental Health Federation organizes the Conference on Mental Health and Well-being at Work
At the meeting, the Castilian-Leonese federation called for greater mental health care in work environments.
«The objective of this act is to analyze the reality that companies experience in terms of well-being and their inclusive capacity, as well as to reach answers and channel proposals to improve the emotional and psychosocial quality of the work environment.“he explained Rich Elena Briongos, president of the federation, during the inauguration ceremony. In it, they also participated Fernando de la Parte MayorGeneral Director of Labor and Occupational Risk Prevention of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment of the Junta de Castilla y León; Enrique Cabero MoranPresident of the Economic and Social Council of Castilla y León, and Begona Grijalvo RebolloTerritorial Director of Inserta Empleo CyL (ONCE Foundation).
Throughout the morning, important expert voices in the field might be heard, who have analyzed the current state of mental health care in companies, the impact of the COVID pandemic, as well as first-person experiences from collaborating companies with the association movement. Briongos wanted to highlight that “In those people who have a job loss or whose working conditions are not the most optimal, there is a high risk of seeing their mental health compromised. Caring for emotional well-being at work represents the great preventive action that companies should consider as one of the priorities to take into account”.
From the mental health associative movement, they have been developing support lines for years aimed at both people with mental health problems and those companies that have joined the labor market. In this sense, the president of the federation wanted to publicly thank those companies that during the past year 2021 formalized the 967 contracts for people with mental health problems of the Castilla y León associative movement.
One of the most recent works has been the Guide to Adaptations and Good Practices ‘Mental Health and Well-being at Work’ where a document of analysis and proposals has been generated that can serve as practical help to companies, and in which the federation has had the support of Fundación ONCE.
The social and business perception regarding mental health and its implication in companies “It is a lack of definition of what adaptations must be made to favor the hiring of people with mental health problems, because making adaptations for other physical or sensory disabilities is more visible and ‘measurable’ but in matters related to mental discomfort it is It is true that the needs usually vary and are quite personalized”, assured Jesus Sancheztechnician of the Employment Area of the Federation.
Along with the guide in digital version, the entity has published printed material that has been distributed among the people attending the conference as well as among the main companies and business entities in the region to help and collaborate with them in the process of improving inclusion employment of people with mental health problems, on the one hand, but also to bring closer the need to take care of mental health in the workplace as a method of risk prevention and improvement of psychosocial well-being.
This document includes several questionnaires that allow an evaluation of how accessible the company is, but it also includes another chapter aimed at improving the work environment with the aim of increasing the well-being of the company and of the workers, which can result in a important in reducing sick leave and increasing the so-called emotional salary.
