Test: 8BitDo Ultimate Controller – The other Pro controller of the Switch?

For my part, I knew the brand 8BitDo by far, mainly for his pieces dedicated to the Raspberry. But I know they cut themselves an excellent reputation for their console accessories.

I had the pleasure of seeing the controller arrive 8BitDo Ultimate, dedicated to the PC as to the Switch, in wired version. The controller is also available in a wireless version (with or without dongle) on an elegant charging dock so simple that we would like to see it declined by official manufacturers.

Visually, the 8BitDo Ultimate looks quite similar to Nintendo’s Switch Pro Controller with a touch of Xbox and is even more comfortable once well in hand. My obsession for D-pad makes me quickly test the ergonomics of the directional pad and I come out half satisfied. It’s not bad, but it’s not this time that I’ll find a controller that has particularly taken care of this aspect. At least, it is more pleasant than that of the official controllerwhich – let’s face it – is only Pro in name.

You might even think that Nintendo released a Pro controller just to stop more advanced gamers from complaining regarding the Joy-Cons – which are quite abominable in terms of ergonomics. Besides, now that I think regarding it, it was also the case for the two previous consoles and their particular controllers: Nintendo had never really released a good classic controller worthy of interest (and for having made Bayonetta 2 with the Mablette, believe me that I regret it).

That’s wherea manufacturer like 8BitDo has a market to take : provide “Pro” controllers adapted to the right machines, whether we are talking regarding Switch or retro-looking hardware for Raspberry. With the Ultimate Controller, we arrive at the luxury controller segment that Nintendo refuses to take, unlike Sony and Microsoft, and without having to sell a kidney.

8BitDo’s Ultimate Controller features two back buttonswhich can be assigned to any function, including macros. In fact, the entire controller can become a gigantic macro machine for your Switch.

The 8BitDo Ultimate White Wired Controller is a great option for anyone looking for a quality gamepad. Its glossy white finish and ergonomic design also make it an aesthetically pleasing choice.

I also appreciate the precision and responsiveness of the buttons and sticks of the controlleras well as the quality and usb cable length (for a wired controller suitable for the Switch, this is important). Also note the possibility of customizing the parameters of the controller using theapplication 8bitDo for wireless versions. However, upon research some users have reported connectivity issues with the wireless controller when used with Android devices.
