A 12-foot alligator mauled 31-year-old Brittany Clark to death in Florida’s Econlockhatchee River, according to reports from The Sun.

Clark had been hiking with her boyfriend, Chance, and another friend. The group had entered the river to cool off when the predator struck.

Ambush in the Econlockhatchee

The attack was sudden. While the group was in the water, the 12-foot alligator ambushed Clark, inflicting fatal injuries. Her boyfriend, Chance, attempted to intervene during the encounter in a desperate effort to save her.

‘Full of Life’

Those closest to Clark remember her as an “amazing person” who was “full of life,” according to statements cited by The Sun.

The Danger of Florida’s Freshwater

The Econlockhatchee River is a known habitat for American alligators. At 12 feet, the predator involved in this attack ranks among the larger specimens found within the state’s freshwater systems. Witness accounts are currently being used to detail the specific circumstances of the encounter.
