WhatsApp returns to work on audio transcription

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

In September 2011, we covered it here on MacMagazine that the WhatsApp I was working on a feature transcription of audios into text — which was later abandoned for who knows why.

Now, luckily, he’s back to pipeline of app development. As shown by WABetaInfoin the last beta of WhatsApp for iOS (version 23.3.0.73) it was possible to notice that the feature is under development through an error message that attests to the inability to transcribe certain audios due to the language setting.

This probably has to do with the fact that the transcription feature will run locally on the iPhone, with nothing being sent to the cloud — in order, of course, not to compromise the user’s privacy.

For those who don’t want to wait for a day (who knows) to be released, we’ve already talked regarding a chatbot called ViraTextowhich basically does the same thing.
