The growing efforts of Twitter to give even more space to subscribers of its paid service, it gained yet another novelty: from the day April 15the network will prevent posts from unverified accounts from appearing in feed recommendations “For you”.
In a post announcing the change, the head of the platform, Elon Musksaid the decision to only recommend tweets from accounts that have a verification badge was “the only realistic way to deal with advanced swarms of AI bots.”
This is the only realistic way to deal with advanced swarms of AI bots taking over. Otherwise, it’s a hopeless battle to win.
Voting in polls will require verification for the same reason.
In the same tweet, Musk revealed that the ability to vote in polls on the social media platform will also require a Twitter Blue subscription for the same reason — something that has been rolled out since the beginning of this year.
Previously, Musk said that paid verification “significantly increases the cost of using bots and makes it easier to identify them.” Additionally, subscribers who change their username, nickname or profile picture will temporarily lose the blue badge until their account is reviewed once more.
It’s also worth noting that the network will end its “legacy” verification program and remove the badges distributed by the old verification plans starting April 1st.
