MIAMI – Sergio Perez will start his hunt for his third Formula 1 race win of the year from pole position. Surprisingly, the Mexican set the best qualifying time at the Miami International Autodrome in his Red Bull. He benefited from an early end of the session due to an accident by Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin and Carlos Sainz in the second Ferrari came in second. Championship leader Max Verstappen was ninth.
