Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma smashed a world record from another era in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Paris. The only 22-year-old improved in 7:52:11 minutes the mark of the Katari Saif Saaeed Shaheen, who had held the record (7:53.63) since 2004. Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon also broke the world record in the 5,000m a week following setting the world record in the 1,500m.

The Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen undercut the 7:58.61 minutes set by Daniel Komen in 1997 on the rarely run two-mile distance in 7:54.10 minutes. Noah Lyles won over 100 m, the American came in a headwind of almost one meter in 9.97 seconds. Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs (ITA) played no role (7th / 10.21).
