The Tour de France 2023 is undoubtedly played at the end of the 17th stage. Jonas Vingegaard is ideally placed following the failure of Tadej Pogacar. Member of the breakaway of the day, the Austrian Felix Gall won the 165.7 km stage between Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc and Courchevel alone.
The Austrian edged out England’s Simon Yates by 34 seconds to claim the biggest win of his career.
Pogacar cracks
Pogacar, who had fallen at the start of the stage, suffered a failure in the terrible Col de la Loze, losing contact with the yellow jersey just under 8 km from the summit, even before the hardest ramps. In the end, he crossed the line 5’45 from Vingegaard, thus burying his slim hopes of reversing the situation.
Barring a fall, Jonas Vingegaard will win a second Grande Boucle on Sunday in Paris following 2022. Pogacar resisted for two weeks, but he ended up having to admit defeat.
