Arsenal won the Community Shield at Wembley by beating Manchester City 4-1 on penalties, with the score 1-1 between the two teams at the end of regulation time.
In this traditional gala match between outgoing champions Manchester City and runner-up Arsenal, Cole Palmer opened the scoring for the Gunners with a curled shot from the left in the entrance to the penalty area in the 77th minute.
Leandro Trossard equalized for Manchester City following eleven minutes of added time, his shot on target from the left being deflected by Manuel Akanji (who played the entire game), catching goalkeeper Ortega Moreno on the wrong foot.
