the essential The 2nd stage of the Grand Villeneuvois opera festival took place in Casseneuil. Sheltered from the storm, the artists were welcomed by a room full as an egg.

In the public of the concert “The reign of the castrati” offered in Casseneuil, the beautiful little town of three rivers, there were certainly very passionate music lovers but also, and this is confirmation that the aim of interesting a new public of people not yet familiar with what is commonly called “great music”. This is very satisfying for the organizers, the team of the association L’Exception lyrique and the initiator of this project, the renowned opera singer Chantal Perraud from Sainte-Livrade who was able to convince the mayor and vice-president of the Villeneuvoise agglomeration Pierre-Jean Pudal of this project.

Here we are already at the second edition of this Festival and the first two concerts – the previous one was at Haras de la sous-préfecture – sold out! During this Casseneuil concert, the public was led to find or discover “The reign of the castrati” served by a quartet founded for the occasion of the evening, composed of high quality artists: Théo Amart countertenor, Alice Coquart on cello , Mario Konka on violin and Sam Crowther on harpsichord. These artists, solicited several months ago according to their professional background by Chantal Perraud, the designated artistic director of this musical event already highly envied by connoisseurs of the world of lyric music. The artists who were of great generosity (two breathtaking encores) interpreted with the essential delicacy, technique, passion and enthusiasm a very tempting, intense program, which had no difficulty in conquering and enthralling an impatient public. Georg Friedrich Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, Francesco Geminiani and Ricardo Broschi, masters of baroque music carefully chosen for this concert.

“The castrati”: who were they? Many mysteries reign over these singers mutilated from an early age: they retained a child’s voice following a barbaric medical intervention and their rib cage was that of an adult. Since 1902, this practice ceased and this musical repertoire was then interpreted by the counter-tenors! The artist Théo Imart, who regularly takes leading roles in the best works at festivals, was magnificently well served by the quartet of musicians, his accomplices in a concert. His talent did the rest!
