The 19th Asian Games got off to a grand start in Hangzhou. 15 days to go for the war for the supremacy of the Asian continent. Chinese President Xi Jinping inaugurated the Games at the ‘Big Lotus’ Stadium in Hangzhou, where sound and lights were a wonder. The two-and-a-half-hour long opening ceremony is said to be a celebration of China’s history and present. The time-honored digital marvel has once once more stunned. The Games torch was lit at the end of the art show that shed light on the endless possibilities of technology. The inaugural event was an effective use of the potential of artificial intelligence for eco-friendly games. China’s swimming Olympic champion Wangshun lit the torch. Eighty thousand people packed the stadium as witnesses and the athletes stepped forward with the national flag. The Indian players lined up ninth. Hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh and boxing star Lovelina Borgohain will carry the national flag. 12,500 athletes from 45 countries will participate in the Games which will last till October 8. The competition is in 60 events at 54 venues. There are 481 gold medals in 61 categories. China has won all the last ten games. India finished eighth in the last two games.
