The ECB’s digital currency will be tested for two years before its launch.
The ECB (European Central Bank) announces the launch of “the preparatory phase», with tests and experimentation, of the digital euro. The digital euro was imagined as a response to the growing dematerialization of payments and cryptocurrencies.
«We must prepare our currency for the future», Declared the President of the ECB, Christine Lagarde, in a press release, at the end of two years of evaluation of the project. This phase “preparatory» will also have an initial duration of two years and “will pave the way for a future decision» on the possible issuance of a digital euro.
