Nestlé said on Thursday that it had “temporarily closed” one of its production plants in Israel as a “precautionary measure,” becoming the first consumer products giant to take action related to the conflict there.

Several international companies temporarily suspended some of their operations in Israel and asked their employees to work from home following the country was subjected to a sudden attack by Hamas earlier this month.

Nestlé CEO Mark Schneider said in a call with reporters regarding earnings, “We are focused on the safety of our colleagues and employees. I have no comment on the development of the business… We have taken the necessary precautionary measures,” according to Archyde.com.

Other multinational packaged goods companies have so far remained silent on the conflict, although retail, healthcare and oil companies have been quick to express their positions.

The companies remained silent following criticism of the packaged goods sector for choosing to remain in Russia and continuing to sell “essential” products such as diapers and baby formula there.
