The picture was undeservedly forgotten by the public.

The drama “Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears” was presented at the very end of 1979, and in 1981 it won an Oscar. The film is still considered one of the brightest in Soviet cinema, but few people know that in the same year a film with a very similar plot was shot in Leningrad – “Married for the First Time.”

The film was directed by Joseph Kheifits, and invited Evgenia Glushenko and Nikolai Volkov to play the main roles. The plot of the film was built around the girl Tony, who alone raises her daughter Tamara, completely devoting herself to the heiress. The heroine constantly faces difficulties in life, and even her daughter ceases to treat her with respect. And only following forty years does she manage to start a happy life.

And the film, as the authors of the Zen channel are sure “Oh, I’ll give it a ride!”, is a copy of “Moscow” by Vladimir Menshov. Both films tell the story of women who are forced to deal with a difficult world. However, in the Leningrad film, the life of the main character looks much more realistic and believable.

“Still, the melodrama “Moscow to Tears…” is much more optimistic, although “Married for the First Time” is tougher and more heartbreaking.”say the blog authors.

And Kheifitz’s film might well qualify for the coveted statuette. However, it was undeservedly deprived of public attention, and only the most devoted fans of Soviet cinema still remember regarding the film.
