There have long been rumors online that Certain Affinity is working on a battle royale mode for Halo Infinite, and the recent official confirmation has only confirmed those rumors.

What is known

In April 2022, Certain Affinity announced an official partnership with 343 Industries, defining the goal as “to continue to develop Halo Infinite in new and exciting ways.” It was later reported that the team was working on “something big and new for the franchise.”

However, it appears that the previously announced battle royale project codenamed Tatanka has been canceled, as reported by XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker and confirmed by Xbox insider Colteastwood, who received similar reports from various sources.

For those who don’t know

Back in January last year, it was reported that Tatanka, although initially launched as a battle royale for Halo Infinite, has undergone changes over time and been developed in different directions using the Unreal Engine 5 engine.
