The two major train wheel producing countries, China and Germany, will wait a bit. The French group Europlasma has sent a takeover offer for the two Valdunes sites, the last manufacturer of train wheels in France, we learned this Thursday from the Ministry of the Economy.

If this offer is validated at a final hearing on March 20 at the Lille commercial court, the Trith-Saint-Léger factory, near Valenciennes and the Leffrinckoucke forge, near Dunkirk, might retain 175 employees out of just over 300.

In receivership

Valdunes, a symbol of industrial sovereignty in France and for which President Emmanuel Macron promised to fight “until the last quarter of an hour”, is in receivership following the withdrawal of its Chinese shareholder.

This is “the only offer”, underlined Bercy. Europlasma promises “24 million euros of investment over the next three years”. The offer includes “conditions precedent”, specifies the ministry. “Questions arise around the financing of public authorities (…) on the State side we have always said that we are ready to support. So we will. »
