This day, authorities commemorate the second anniversary of the entry into force of the Nacer con Cariño Law, an initiative promoted by First Lady Gabriela de Bukele, for the benefit of Salvadoran families and with an emphasis on mothers and babies.
In just two years, this legislation has managed to transform maternal and child health care. Maternal mortality has been reduced by more than 50% (from 62.8% in 2021 to 26.8% in 2023); premature baby rates went from 8.6% in 2021 to 7.8% in 2023; and the infant mortality rate decreased, from 4.34% in 2021 to 3.9% in 2023.
