The president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST), Dom Manuel Imbamba, called, yesterday, in Malanje, for the reinforcement of ethics and commitment of institutions in providing public service, towards combating the evils that affect citizens
According to the prelate, institutions are currently experiencing a profound ethical crisis, which has weakened their functioning and influenced public life and the development of society.
Speaking at the opening mass of the 1st Annual Plenary Assembly of CEAST, which the province hosts, Dom Manuel Imbamba highlighted that the awareness of evil, injustice and sin tends to disappear due to a lack of ethics, hence the need to rescue this value in the country .
He highlighted that due to a lack of ethics, many services are affected, contributing to speculation and negatively affecting people’s way of life, due to selfishness, individualism and other evils.
He also pointed out acts of corruption, nepotism, cronyism and even vandalization and dilapidation of public assets, as being the result of a lack of ethics, which is why the Executive’s focus must be focused on combating this phenomenon and the continuous satisfaction of people’s needs. .
“We must strive for ethical management of the public service, so as not to fall into discredit and inertia, repeating the same mistakes that generate injustice, dissatisfaction and despair”, he stressed, adding that only in this way will employees become serious, honest, responsible , exemplary and committed to the execution of public policies outlined by the Executive.
However, the religious man expressed his belief in better days ahead, through innovative capacities for dialogue, rapprochement, solidarity and reconciliation between citizens and the State, within the framework of proximity governance and above all with the implementation of local authorities in the near future.
On the other hand, he highlighted love for others, forgiveness and renewal of spirits as aspects that tend to consecrate life and are decisive for Christians, as those who love donate their lives to the experience of others.
On this path, he highlighted that this spirit must guide Angolans, so that they can move towards development and the desired unity and fraternity.
The now open Assembly will run until March 4th and will, among other aspects, analyze the life of the Episcopal College that comprises the Conference and pray in favor of the population.
It will culminate with the opening of the centenary of Dom Alexandre Cardeal do Nascimento to be celebrated on March 1, 2025 and the Jubilee 2025, and will include the participation of archbishops and bishops of the Archdioceses and Dioceses of various provinces and municipalities in Angola and advisors and secretaries of CEAST.
