Premiere in the Upper Austrian lower house of football: Today, Good Friday, goals can also be celebrated in the amateur leagues for the first time. Upper Austria’s football association has released the game date – there will be kick-offs on 32 lower house pitches today. “I’m glad that this regulation has been passed and that games can also be played in Upper Austria on this Good Friday. Our club would have been in favor of it for years,” says Florian Fröhlich, section manager of SV Molln. His club in the 1st Class East is one of a total of 64 Upper Austrian clubs that uses today’s match day on the Christian holiday: “Originally, Sunday was our traditional home match day. But after we upgraded our floodlight system, that changed. The people It’s good, we can also see that in the sales.”
Donau-Linz sports director Kurt Baumgartner, whose team is hosting Putzleinsdorf in the Eastern Regional League today, sees it similarly: “We’ve finally figured it out in Upper Austria too. So the whole Easter weekend is free.”
For organizational reasons, Upper Austrian league leader Askö Oedt is also playing against Bad Leonfelden today. “We don’t like to play with our two combat teams on the same day because the pitch often doesn’t accommodate it. We didn’t want to play on Easter Sunday, so our combat team is playing today and our 1b team is playing tomorrow, Saturday,” explains Oedt sports director Gerald Baumgartner. Prerequisite for the kick on today’s Good Friday: Both teams in a pairing had to agree to the date.
