Yesterday, Cuba’s National Electric System (SEN) was affected by a generation capacity deficit, resulting in service interruptions from 5:00 p.m. to 4:43 a.m. this morning.
The maximum impact recorded was 481 MW at 11:10 p.m., a value higher than planned. This increase was due to the unavailability of fuel in distributed generation and a demand higher than forecast.
At 7:00 a.m. today, SEN availability stood at 2,420 MW, while demand was 2,390 MW, keeping the entire system in service. However, it is estimated that at midday there will be disruptions to the service due to a generation capacity deficit of 450 MW.
Currently, units 5 of the Mariel Thermal Power Plant (CTE), 1 of the Santa Cruz CTE and 2 of the Felton CTE are out of service due to breakdowns. Limitations in thermal generation amount to 450 MW. In addition, 61 distributed generation plants are out of service due to lack of fuel, affecting a total of 463 MW.
For today’s peak hour, availability is estimated at 2,420 MW compared to a maximum demand of 3,150 MW, which will result in a deficit of 730 MW. If these conditions continue, an impact of 800 MW is forecast during this time.
