They registered 239 projects for cinema

There were 239 national film projects registered in the first selection cycle, at the close of the application period for the call for the Program to Stimulate and Promote National Film Production.

Filmmaker Carlos Azpúrua, president of the National Autonomous Center of Cinematography (Cnac), highlighted the sustained increase in the figures of this program, which this year includes the modality of minority co-production for fiction feature films, “renewing the confidence of the country’s film sector and advancing in the strengthening of Venezuelan cinema,” he said.

He emphasized the persevering disposition of the country’s film sector, while summarizing the postulates of his management in the phrase of the Cuban hero José Martí: “Doing is the best way to say.”

Since the reactivation of the Stimulus and Promotion Program in 2021, the number of projects shows gradual growth that translates into improvements for the sector. Currently, 151 films have the financial support of the Center.

The figures that favor job creation and economic growth opportunities also reflect an increase in gender and creative diversity of the film proposals received.

There are 239 projects distributed in: script development (114); script rewrite (26); project development (29); short film productions (31); documentary feature film productions (11); minority co-production of fiction feature film (9); post-production (9) and in completion (10).

In this way, Cnac continues its commitment to supporting national cinema from any front and regardless of the ideology of its filmmakers.

Hence, Azpúrua always comments that this institution, attached to the Ministry of Culture, always supports the national film industry, which faces great challenges, which are assumed with respect for the filmmakers and with a spirit of equality “and above all, loyalty.” towards the filmmakers, without prejudices or preferences; “I believe in art and true art is revolutionary.”

Since its creation in 1994, Cnac constitutes a system in which international relations, training of filmmakers, research, communication plans, international festivals, supervision of national exhibition, advice on legal issues converge; as well as matters relating to the social security of the film worker.
