Three cup victories at the official start of the Football Academy season

The 2024/2025 football season started for Go Ahead Eagles Under-14 with an IJssel derby against PEC Zwolle O14. After a 2-0 half-time score in favor of the Zwolle team, Patrick Kieftenbelt’s men equalized in the second half through goals from Ryan Kamara and Onur Sen: 2-2. In the end, it was PEC Zwolle O14 that came out on top by scoring the third goal and qualifying for the next round of the cup tournament: 3-2.

Go Ahead Eagles Under-15 immediately turned the first official match of the season into a true cup thriller. Bram Meuwissen’s team took the lead in the 8th minute against De Betrokken Spartaan O15 via Liam Knijff: 0-1. Shortly before half-time, the Rotterdam opponent managed to produce the equalizer: 1-1. Because no more goals were scored in the second half, penalties had to bring the decision. Go Ahead Eagles O15 showed themselves to be the most cool-headed from eleven meters, which allowed them to reach the next round of the cup.

Go Ahead Eagles Under-17 also needed penalties to reach the next round of the cup tournament. Against AZ U17, Jip Ellenbroek’s team was 0-1 behind at half-time. In extra time in the second half, it was Adnan El Boujjoufi who equalised the score: 1-1. Where the Alkmaar team missed once from eleven metres in the decisive penalty series, Go Ahead Eagles U17 kept a cool head and scored five times (5-3).

Go Ahead Eagles Under-19 had to acknowledge their superior in AZ U19. After a 2-0 deficit, Peter Vogel’s men came back into the game with two goals from Kaid Becker (including one penalty): 2-2. After that, however, there was no stopping them and the Alkmaarders still extended their lead to a 9-2 cup victory.

Go Ahead Eagles Under-21 did qualify for the next round of the cup tournament. The oldest youth team of the Go Ahead Eagles Football Academy took a 1-0 lead against FC Volendam O21 shortly before half-time thanks to a goal by Maxwell Rodrigues. Shortly after half-time, the margin was doubled by Kader Koné: 2-0. The Volendammers scored in the 65th minute against (2-1), but Jeroen Spies’ team managed to pull the victory over the line and reach the next round of the cup tournament.
