Andalusia Makes Progress Towards Flu Vaccination Goals
The 2024-2025 flu vaccination campaign in Andalusia is well underway,
with over 1.5 million people already receiving their flu shot. This represents
approximately 41.9% of the target population protected against the seasonal influenza virus.
Vaccination efforts began on September 30th, initially focusing on children
between six and 59 months old. Since October 9th, the campaign has expanded
to include other risk groups, ensuring broad coverage across the region.
“This vaccination campaign continues to offer a convenient, appointment-free
option for the target population every Wednesday,” announced Salud. “A comprehensive
list of participating centers has been prepared by the SAS, detailing the
municipality, vaccination point, and operating hours for each location. In Jaén
province alone, 65 vaccination points have been established to administer
flu and/or Covid vaccines to individuals who have not yet been vaccinated and belong to the designated risk groups.”
Analysis of vaccination rates by province shows a varied landscape:
Almería clocks in at 119,241 vaccinated individuals; Cádiz reports 189,267;
Córdoba registers 169,840; Granada boasts 189,242; Huelva records 85,936;
Jaén has reached 148,300; Málaga reflects a strong turnout with 265,082; and Seville
enjoys the highest participation at 350,108.
Within age demographics, 149,221 children aged
six to 59 months have received their flu vaccine, representing
54.7% of this group. Notably, coverage increases to 62.9% for
children aged three and four who had the option to receive
their vaccine at school.
Adults over 60 years old continue to be
a priority, with Andalusia exceeding one million vaccinated individuals in this
age group – a total of 1,003,293, signifying 47% coverage.
Significantly, 291,755 individuals over the age of
80 have been immunized, achieving 67.3% coverage within this vital
demographic group.
Nursing home residents have benefited from
extensive vaccination efforts, resulting in 88.3% coverage
with 35,295 flu vaccine doses administered. Furthermore, 32,281 Covid vaccine doses
have been administered, reaching 80.8% coverage
within these facilities.
