After a hiatus of over a decade, the metal world is buzzing with the news of a legendary band’s resurgence. NEVERMORE, known for their epic progressive metal sound and the powerful vocals of the late Warrel Dane, is set to return in 2025. Jeff Loomis, the band’s visionary guitarist, announced the news, revealing a driving ambition to “revamp the band, and it’s gonna be bigger and better than it ever was.”
Loomis’ departure from ARCH ENEMY paved the way for this momentous return. “I wanted to kind of be behind the driver’s wheel of my own music again,” he explained, recognizing the powerful pull of his roots in NEVERMORE.
The quest to rebuild the band began with a worldwide search for a new vocalist and bassist. Over 650 submissions flooded in, a testament to the band’s enduring legacy and the fans’ fervent desire to see them return.
“We’re taking our time with it. We wanna make sure we’re doing it right, and get somebody to honor Warrel Dane’s name, but still somebody that can sing like him, but still give a little bit of their own self, or their own self-worth,” Loomis stated, emphasizing the daunting task of finding the right replacements.
The former NEVERMORE bassist, Jim Shephard, expressed his own complex emotions about the reunion, acknowledging the band’s illustrious past while also highlighting his personal disappointment at being excluded from the decision. “In my heart, NEVERMORE will always be Warrel, Jeff and I living in a one-room apartment, slaves to an eight-track recording machine, non-stop songwriting insanity,” he reminisced.
Despite the bittersweet feelings, Shepherd wished the band well, noting “with that said, I wish them the best.”
The comeback journey for NEVERMORE is paved with both anticipation and challenges. Finding the right vocalist to carry the torch passed by Warrel Dane will undoubtedly be a crucial turning point. The band’s legacy is deeply intertwined with Dane’s powerful vocals, making this a delicate balancing act. The task is to honor the past while forging a new path forward.
For fans, the return of NEVERMORE signifies a chance to relive the magic of their music and possibly discover new dimensions to their sound. The next chapter in this legendary band’s story is yet to be written, but one thing is for sure – the metal world is eagerly awaiting the unveiling.
NEVERMORE reforging: A New Chapter for the Metal Icons
After years of silence, the legendary metal band NEVERMORE is set to rise again. The group’s founding members, Jeff Loomis and Warrel Dane, announced thay are searching for a vocalist and bassist to continue the band’s legacy. This initiative marks a significant departure for NEVERMORE, as the band’s original frontman, Warrel Dane, tragically passed away in 2017.
A Arduous Departure: Addressing Jim Martin’s absence
The declaration also addressed the absence of original guitarist Jim Martin from the reunion. Loomis explained the situation: “Some people think it’s disrespectful not to involve Jim or inform him of our plans. But those who feel that way don’t know the history of the band or the behind-the-scenes dynamics that led to this decision. While it may not have been the most ideal approach, the reality is that there hasn’t been interaction with Jim in years.”
“We felt that sometimes, for the sake of a fresh start, it’s necessary to move on from relationships that may no longer be conducive to growth or new beginnings,” Loomis continued. “We made this decision with the intention of honoring the legacy of the band while moving forward in a way that felt right for us at the time. That said, we wish him good health and he is free to pursue whatever path he chooses. Without going into too much detail, I’ll just say respect goes both ways, and certain things became irreconcilable over time for us… I wish the situation with Jim were different, but the past has brought us here.”
Rejecting money – Driven by Passion for Music
Loomis stressed that the band’s motivation is not financial gain.
“Most musicians don’t do this for the money. We’ve spent countless hours thru the years sweating, rehearsing, performing, and recording simply because we love it. This is what we chose to do in life because we’ve always loved it. That’s what drives us, the passion for music, the connection with fans, and the creative process. If money comes from that, great but it has never been the focus, but we also have bills to pay like you.”
Searching for New Talent, Honoring the Past
Jeff, who contributed significantly to NEVERMORE’s songwriting, emphasized the band’s search for a vocalist who can both honor the past and forge a new path.
“No one can replace Warrel Dane. Bottom line. With his captivating melodies and charisma onstage, he was a force that was a huge part of the band both lyrically and spiritually. With with that in mind, we aren’t looking for a Warrel Dane clone.
