Schools Across Multiple Districts in Turkey Close Due to severe Weather Conditions

Several districts across Turkey have closed schools for one day due to adverse weather conditions, including heavy snowfall.

A statement released by the districts confirmed the closures, citing safety concerns for students. These districts include:

  • Spruce
  • Asarcık
  • Atakum
  • Ayvacık
  • Bafra
  • Canik

“Due to adverse weather conditions effective in our district, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, all official, private, formal and widespread educational institutions in our district were suspended for 1 (one) day,” reads a statement released by Spruce District.

Similarly, districts like Asarcık, Ayvacık, Bafra, and Canik echoed this sentiment, citing heavy snowfall and dangerous road conditions.

Atakum District, however, clarified that closures specifically apply to students relying on transportation, noting, “Due to adverse weather conditions that are effective in our district, our students who continue their education through transportation will be considered on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, for 1 day.”

Ecem Yilmaz: We’re exploring various options,such as improving emergency response measures,enhancing school bus safety features,and even staggering school timings to reduce the number of students commuting during peak snowfall hours.We’ll continue to work closely with our districts and local authorities to ensure students’ safety.
