The landmark shipment represents a new chapter for Brazil’s rapidly growing fruit sector.The opening of the Chilean market, driven by Abrafrutas, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Map), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mre), reflects Brazil’s commitment to fulfilling rigorous phytosanitary and regulatory requirements.

The proclamation was strategically timed with Abrafrutas’s “Frutas do Brazil – Chile festival” on May 28 at the Ritz Hotel in santiago. This event, in partnership with Apexbrasil, convened Chilean importers, local authorities, and key industry representatives to foster stronger trade relationships and boost Brazilian Avocado exports.

Chile: A Prime Destination for Avocado Consumption

Chile stands out as the second-largest per capita consumer of Avocados worldwide,trailing only Mexico. Data from the Chilean Committee of La Palma indicates that in 2024, the country’s per capita consumption reached 8.6 kg per person annually, up from 8.2 kg in 2023. This sustained growth highlights the strong domestic demand and preference for Avocados among Chilean consumers.

In 2024, Brazil exported over 24,000 tons of Avocados. The first quarter of 2025 saw exports exceeding 6,000 tons, reflecting brazilian producers’ eagerness to capitalize on export opportunities. This includes expanding beyond traditional tropical varieties to meet the high demand for Hass Avocados.

São Paulo is the leading Avocado-producing state in Brazil, accounting for nearly 45% of national production. The Institute of Agricultural Economics (Iea – Apta) reported that the state produced 192,000 tons of the fruit in 2023, an 8.54% increase from the previous year.

“Sending avocados to Chile is a milestone.It is the result of a coordinated effort that demonstrates Brazil’s ability to attend markets around the world,” says Eduardo Brandão, executive director of abrafrutas.
