Mark your calendars for Friday, June 13, Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15, 2025, as a rich program of events unfolds, offering a unique opportunity for the public to explore the region’s rich historical heritage.

Cure du Vieux Doulon: A Historical Gem

The Cure du Vieux Doulon, located just a stone’s throw from the Abbé Derideau square, is a 17th-century presbytery that once stood at the heart of a modest estate. This historic site, adjacent to the Saint-Médard church (destroyed in 1966), is now part of an urban transformation project that includes the construction of nearly 2,700 dwellings and the establishment of the Public School Claire Bretécher in September 2022.

During the European Archeology Days, visitors can participate in free excavations at the Cure du Vieux Doulon on Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15, from 12:00 to 17:00 at 12 rue du Pontereau, 44300 Nantes. This is a rare chance to get hands-on experience with archaeology in a setting rich with historical significance.

Château de Châteaubriant: Guided Tours and Workshops

At Château de Châteaubriant, the European Archeology Days promise an immersive experience with guided tours and free workshops. Visitors can enjoy flash visits titled “Once upon a time the dungeon,” which offer a 30-minute glimpse into the castle’s medieval evolution through archaeological discoveries. These visits are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.

For those interested in ceramics, the “Ceramologist” flash workshops provide a practical introduction to ceramology. Participants will sort tessons, reconstruct ceramics, and identify their medieval uses. These workshops are limited to 30 minutes and are accessible to children from six years old. They will take place at the same times as the flash visits.

The exhibition “Cappella – In the footsteps of archaeologists” offers a sensory journey through the castle’s chapel, featuring captivating projections and the stories of archaeological findings. This immersive experience is open to everyone and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
