Breaking News: Fabian Gschliesser and Tommy Purdeller Shine in the Sunshine Hockey League

As the summer sun beats down, Fabian Gschliesser and Tommy Purdeller are already back on the ice, making headlines in the newly established Sunshine Hockey League. This innovative league, the first of its kind in Europe, is set to redefine the summer hockey experience for top-tier players.

What is the Sunshine Hockey League?

The Sunshine Hockey League, founded by former AlpsHL players Mark Kompain and Neal Unterluggauer, is a revolutionary concept in the world of ice hockey. Eight elite teams, featuring top players like NHL professional Marco Kasper and Salzburg stars Peter Schneider and Benjamin Nissner, are participating in this groundbreaking competition.

The league’s unique rules include two-thirds of 20-minute games, four players per team, no body checks, and a “hot minute” where goals count twice. These adaptations make the game faster and more exciting, ensuring that both fun and competition are at the forefront.

Gschliesser and Purdeller’s First Impressions

Fabian Gschliesser, playing for the Liwo Druck Lightning, shared his first impressions after the inaugural game. “I never thought it could be so intense. Although it’s not a real league, everything is high-level,” he said. “The referees are from the ICE Hockey League, and there’s a physiotherapist for the players. The atmosphere in Ferlach was amazing, with many fans in the hall.”

Gschliesser also noted that the league is financed through team sponsors, with each team displaying their logo on the jerseys. Despite the lack of physical contact, the competitive spirit is strong, with players eager to win even in a fun-filled environment.

The Future of Summer Hockey

The Sunshine Hockey League is not just a summer distraction; it’s a sign of things to come. With the ice hockey season still a ways off, this league offers a unique opportunity for players to stay sharp and engaged. Gschliesser believes that the league will continue to grow, saying, “It’s the first edition, but I can well imagine that the Sunshine Hockey League will also exist in the next few years.”

As the league gains traction, it’s clear that summer hockey will never be the same. With innovative rules and a commitment to fun and competition, the Sunshine Hockey League is set to become a staple in the hockey calendar.
