Newcastle Racing Tips: Silky Lass, Tasever & More – Today’s Predictions

by Luis Mendoza - Sport Editor

Newcastle Racecourse is the center of attention today, with a compelling novice stakes race headlining the card. All eyes will be on Silky Lass and Lakota Chief as they compete in the £250,000 Win £250,000 With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Restricted Novice Stakes at 4:42 PM, a key event in the All-Weather Championships. The race promises an open and competitive field, drawing significant interest from racing fans and analysts alike.

The contest features a mix of experienced contenders and promising newcomers, adding to the anticipation. Karl Burke’s Silky Lass, currently rated 63 after four starts, enters the race off a credible third-place finish at Newcastle and is expected to be a strong challenger if she can replicate that performance. Jockey Jack Nicholls will be in the saddle.

Lakota Chief, trained by an unconfirmed source, was favored on debut at Newcastle last month but finished fourth. Despite showing some greenness, the horse demonstrated potential and is expected to improve with this additional furlong. William Cox will be riding. The open nature of the race suggests several other horses could craft their mark, including L L Koulsty, a recent winner from Cork, and Lorton Valley, making its debut for the Julie Camacho stable.

Key Contenders and Expert Insights

Analysts at Sporting Life highlight L L Koulsty as a leading contender, citing solid form from Ireland. They similarly suggest that Lakota Chief is expected to benefit from the experience gained in his debut race, while Silky Lass is poised to make a significant impact. The Sporting Life forecast lists L L Koulsty as the favorite at 9/4, followed by Silky Lass at 3/1 and Lakota Chief at 6/1.

Beyond the leading contenders, the race features a diverse field. Hengist Pod, Derrygarran Lad, Rocky River, and Thependleburyfox will also be vying for a share of the prize money. The race is a Restricted Novice Stakes for horses aged three to five, with a Class 4 rating over a distance of one mile and five yards. Nine runners are expected to participate.

Additional Races on the Newcastle Card

The Newcastle card isn’t solely focused on the novice stakes. The 2025 Horse of the Year, Tasever, is set to compete in the Always Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap at 4:12 PM over seven furlongs. Sky Sports Racing reports that Tasever, trained by Patrick Morris, has won all six of his career races at Newcastle and is expected to be a strong favorite despite carrying an additional 5lbs. He rallied well to win a mile contest at the track on Tuesday.

Flowstate, who defeated Front Runner over the same course and distance last week, is also a notable contender in the handicap. David O’Meara’s recent success, with a 25% strike rate over the past two weeks, adds to Flowstate’s chances.

Earlier in the day, at 2:12 PM, Tarbat Ness and The Craftymaster will headline the Make The Move To Midnite Handicap. The Craftymaster recently snapped a losing streak with a win at Chelmsford, while Tarbat Ness has won his last three starts and is expected to be a tough competitor.

The Newcastle card promises a full afternoon of competitive racing, with the feature novice stakes attracting significant attention. The performance of Silky Lass and Lakota Chief will be closely watched, as will the efforts of Tasever to continue his winning streak at his favored track.

Looking ahead, the results of today’s races will undoubtedly influence future entries and strategies for upcoming All-Weather Championships events. The performances of the debutantes, like Lorton Valley, will be particularly interesting to observe as they begin their racing careers.
