Christian Counseling Masters: 2026 Entry Requirements & Guide

by

Applications are now being accepted for fall enrollment in the Master of Arts in Christian Counseling – Clinical Mental Health (MACC-CMH) program at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, following a full spring 2026 cohort, the institution announced this week.

The MACC-CMH program, accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP), integrates clinical psychology with Christian theological foundations. The program is designed to prepare students for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health issues affecting individuals, couples, families, and groups. Gordon Conwell offers the program both digitally and at its Charlotte, North Carolina campus.

Several institutions offer master’s level training in Christian counseling, reflecting a growing demand for professionals equipped to address mental and emotional health from a faith-based perspective. Westminster Theological Seminary’s online Master of Arts in Counseling program, for example, emphasizes a reformed theological approach and has a February 18, 2026 application deadline. Cornerstone University’s online Master of Arts in Christian Counseling, accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), is slated to start new cohorts on March 17 and May 11, 2026.

Cornerstone’s program is specifically designed for ministry professionals and focuses on integrating spiritual and emotional health, though the university notes We see not a licensure-track program. Those seeking state-licensed professional counseling credentials through Cornerstone are directed to the university’s Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree program. Similarly, Gordon Conwell’s MACC-CMH program is CACREP accredited, a significant factor for those pursuing licensure.

The MACC-CMH program at Gordon Conwell offers a flexible model, with courses available in evening, weekend, week-intensive, and hybrid-online formats. Students participate in three-day on-campus residencies annually for collaboration and networking. The program also includes a supervised clinical practicum and internship component, as well as professional and integrative seminars designed to connect theological studies with counseling theories. The program’s curriculum is designed to accommodate students already engaged in work and ministry.

Westminster’s online Master of Arts in Counseling program, offered in collaboration with the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF), prepares students to develop a Christ-centered understanding of human experience and counsel with insight grounded in Scripture. The program requires 61 credit hours and can be completed in three to six years. Tuition for a three-credit class is $2,025 for on-campus instruction.

Cornerstone University’s online M.A. In Christian Counseling is a 36-credit-hour program designed to equip pastors, lay leaders, and ministry professionals with counseling tools. The program allows students to transfer up to 75% of previously earned credits.
