Namibia 20 Dollar Banknote 2011 – For Sale

by

A 20 Namibian Dollar banknote issued in 2011 is currently circulating, featuring the portrait of Dr. Sam Nujoma, Namibia’s first President, who served from 1990 to 2005. The banknote, identified by item code NA-12, includes an image of the Parliament building in Windhoek.

The orange-colored note, measuring 134 x 70 mm, was first issued on May 15, 2012, and was printed by Oberthur Technologies in France. It incorporates several security features, including a green-to-magenta OVI diamond with a latent image of the number ’20’, and a BON spot-through logo. The watermark displays a portrait of Dr. Sam Nujoma, and an electrotype ’20’ is also present.

The reverse side of the banknote depicts a Red Hartebeest (Alcelaphus caama) and the Namibian coat of arms. Text on the note includes “Bank of Namibia,” “Twenty Namibia Dollars,” “His Excellency Dr. Sam Nujoma,” as well as the national mottoes “Unity. Liberty. Justice.”

The banknote is signed by Ipumbu Shiimi, the current Governor of the Bank of Namibia. The currency, the Namibian Dollar, has been in use since 1993, replacing the South African Rand following Namibia’s independence. The first banknotes were issued by the Bank of Namibia on September 15, 1993, and the first national coins followed in December of the same year.

As of January 27, 2026, examples of the 20 Namibian Dollar banknote are being offered for sale by numismatic collections. The value of 20 Namibia Dollars currently equates to approximately USD 1.25.
