Montevideo, Uruguay – A new book, “Aportes de las ciencias cognitivas a la educación” (Contributions of Cognitive Sciences to Education), coordinated by Verónica Nin and Juan Valle Lisboa, was published in 2022 by Udelar. CSIC, the University of the Republic (Udelar) and the Scientific Commission of Uruguay (CSIC). The book explores the intersection of cognitive science, neuroscience, and education.

The publication, available online, features contributions from a range of researchers and delves into topics including cognitive development, the prevalence of “neuromyths” in education, perception, attention, memory, and the role of emotions in learning. It too addresses cognitive aspects of teaching mathematics, learning difficulties, and the impact of biological rhythms and sleep on student performance. A chapter is dedicated to the quality of educational environments in early childhood.

According to the book’s description, it aims to provide insights from cognitive sciences applicable to educational practices. The perform includes chapters authored by Leonel Gómez, Lorena Canet-Juric, Isabel Introzzi, Ana García-Coni, Eliana Zamora, María Laura Andrés, Valeria Abusamra, Analía Arévalo, Ana Pírez, Fernando González Perilli, Francisco Cervantes Constantino, Thaíz Sanchez-Costa, Alejandra Carboni Román, Julieta Laurino, Laura Kaczer, Annabel Ferreira, Antonella Arrieta, Emilia Flóy, Camila Zugarramurdi, M. The book is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0) license, allowing for non-commercial employ with attribution, but prohibiting derivative works. It is part of the “Colección Artículo 2” series published by CSIC and is available in the collections of books from the Faculty of Psychology at Udelar.
